Toyota Australia Recalls Kluger And Kluger Hybrid Vehicles Due to 2nd Row Seat Frame

Toyota Australia has today announced that it will initiate a safety recall involving certain Toyota Kluger and Kluger Hybrid vehicles produced between 4th March 2021 – 19th January 2024 (inclusive). There are approximately 36,789 vehicles involved in the Australian market.

The involved vehicles are equipped with a second row 60/40 split, fold down bench seat which is constructed with a seat frame containing a seat-back mid-bar. Certain points on the ends of the 40% side of the seat-back mid-bar may not have been manufactured with the minimum radius requirements of UN ECE R.21. If a crash occurs while the 60% or 40% seat is stowed and the other part of the bench seat is folded down, the rear occupant could come into contact with the incorrectly manufactured mid-bar. If such a situation occurs, there may be an increased risk of injury to the rear occupant.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will fit a plug to the mid bar, free of charge to vehicle owners.

Repair will take approximately 0.5 hours. Depending on the Dealer's work schedule, owners may be required to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.

Toyota Australia will contact all owners of involved vehicles to provide details of this safety recall campaign. Owners are asked to keep their contact details up to date with Toyota so future communications can be received.

Owners with additional questions or concerns are asked to please contact their local/preferred Toyota Dealer in the first instance or the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366 (Mon-Fri 8.00am-6.00pm AEST). Please quote your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
